This class is three days: June 1, 2, and 3 from 9-noon.

Claytor Nature Center is located 25 miles from Lynchburg and 10 minutes from the town of Bedford. The Center offers spectacular views, inspirational settings, easy access, fresh air and lots of dream time.

The goal of the class is to complete a landscape painting in three sessions by completing a major part of the painting each meeting.

What you’ll learn:
How to begin a painting, line in, block in, lay in, brush stroke, composition, and working with value, edges and color. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to work in a plein air setting. You’ll find working from life to be the best learning experience.

When:

Classes will be held from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. rain or shine. Light and intermittent rain is okay. Heavy or consistent rain will cause us to cancel and re-schedule.

Who: Open to beginner and seasoned artists alike. The class is capped at 8 and will be cancelled if there are fewer than 2 registered.

How much: Cost is $120 for a session (i.e., three classes).

Supply list:

(You will need to bring your own supplies.)

Brushes and oil or acrylic paint, your favorite colors or a cool and warm red, yellow, blue plus yellow ochre, black and white.

A French easel or a portable easel with a portable 2' table.
Stretched canvas, canvas panels, or primed wood panels - 9" x 12" or larger.
Turpentine or mineral spirits (for oils) and a container for solvents or water, water is available on site.
