What Animals Eat in the Winter

What Animals Eat in the Winter In-Person

Come join us at Claytor and test your Virginia wildlife knowledge. The focus of this program is what animals eat in the winter! In Virginia, winters are cold, and food is scarce. Learn how our local wildlife adapt and overcome by preparing caches for leaner months.

This is a self-guided program in which you will complete a passport given to you at the beginning of your adventure by our staff. Participants will take to the trail system to find the question stations that correspond with their passports. Activities are geared towards elementary students, but there are a mix of easy and challenging questions to keep students of all ages engaged, as well as parents! At the end of your adventure, return your passport to the staff at check-in to check your answers and receive a certificate and prize based on the level of completeness!

Families may arrive any time between 9:30-11:30am and will have three hours to complete activities. Make sure that you register for your preferred date (listed as separate events in our calendar). For this program, all children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of their exploration. After you have finished with your passport, your family may enjoy lunch at Otter Space or the picnic pavilion. We ask that you respect other families and keep your distance from other participants unless you have an established relationship and protocol for interactions. All participants will be asked to vacate the premises by 2:30p. This event will take place rain or shine.

See the attached FAQs and safety logistics document for more information.

When registering, be sure to include the total count of people that will be attending. For example, 2 children and 1 accompanying parent = 3 registrants.
