Degadatseli'i': Equity Through Environmental Policy In-Person
It is quite evident that our planet is in distress; however, what many may not be aware of is that BIPOC communities are the most affected by our current climate crisis. Therefore, BIPOC communities stand on the front line of protecting and defending the planet. This ‘Courageous Conversation’ will focus on how enforcing stricter environmental protection policies and laws can bring us one step closer toward social and racial equity.
Dalton is of Cherokee, Muskogee, Susquehannock, and Jewish descent and works on multiple fronts to advocate for the rights and respect of not only the planet, but the planet’s most vulnerable populations. Dalton obtained a BA in 2016 from Lynchburg College and a MSW in 2021 from the University of Tennessee. Dalton is presently working on his second Master’s degree in Environmental Law and Policy. Dalton currently serves as Clinic Director for Thriveworks, LLC and Youth Care Worker for Lynchburg Juvenile Detention Center. Dalton resides on Monacan land in Lynchburg, Virginia; however, claims Lancaster, PA, Cherokee, NC, and Appomattox, VA home. Dalton stays quite active within the community serving on the Board of Directors for the Virginia chapter of the Hugh O’ Brian Youth program and volunteering with non-profits such as the UP Foundation and Lynchburg’s chapter of Citizen’s Climate Lobby.
